eMed is a digital health company founded in 2020 and based in Miami, with an office in London. It pairs at-home testing and blood collection with telehealth, and its main program today is GLP-1 weight management for employers and government agencies.
The company grew quickly after its founding, and its engineering and security teams had to keep pace with its products. eMed launches new digital health products often, works in short agile cycles and expects its engineers to build well and move fast.
TekRecruiter worked with two of eMed’s technology leaders through that growth. Samantha Rassner, then CTO, led all of technology, so every engineering hire reported up to her. Peter Holcomb, then chief information security officer, led the security team.
A senior IAM engineer role open for more than 3 months
A leadership colleague introduced Peter to Ron Smith, TekRecruiter’s founder, in 2021. eMed needed a senior identity and access management (IAM) engineer with deep SOC 2 knowledge, and the role had been open for more than 3 months. Other agencies had already worked the search without success.
IAM sits near the center of a SOC 2 program, because it governs who can reach which systems and data. The engineer had to understand both the identity tooling and the access controls a SOC 2 audit examines.
The right IAM engineer in less than a week
The role had been open for more than 3 months. TekRecruiter found the right candidate in less than a week, and eMed filled the role.
Peter then brought TekRecruiter a second security search, for a governance, risk and compliance (GRC) manager. That hire grew with the company and, after Peter moved on, became eMed’s CISO.
Senior engineers for a fast-moving product team
On the engineering side, TekRecruiter worked with Samantha and with engineering managers on her team, including Brandon Johnson and Randall Hand. Their bar held as eMed grew. They wanted the strongest senior engineers available, people who could design, build and ship new health products quickly.
TekRecruiter filled more than 10 senior software engineer roles for those teams. It also placed more than 5 DevOps engineers to support the platform as it scaled, along with 2 HubSpot developers.
A large share of eMed’s engineering team
Together, those hires made up a large portion of eMed’s engineering team during its fastest growth. The work began with a single security search and expanded, under the CTO, into software engineering, DevOps and HubSpot development.
The security hires lasted as well. The GRC manager TekRecruiter placed went on to lead eMed’s security function as CISO.
